Invensys Process Systems has recently completed a fast-track implementation of SimSci-Esscor operator training simulators being used at a new ethylene oxide/ethylene glycol plant in Thailand

Invensys Process Systems has recently completed a fast-track implementation of SimSci-Esscor operator training simulators being used at a new ethylene oxide/ethylene glycol plant in Thailand for TOC Glycol Company (TOCGC), a subsidiary of PTT Chemical The new plant, located at the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate in Rayong province, will supply feedstock products to various processing customers in and around Map Ta Phut, Thailand's key petrochemical industrial cluster

The OTS implementation includes the Dynsim process simulation solution, for high fidelity plant modeling in dynamic and steady states.

These models are being used to train control room and equipment operators and supervisors on the characteristics and interactions of plant systems and procedures.

The simulation network also includes the Trisim solution for replicating the control logic for the new plant Triconex emergency shutdown (ESD) systems.

In addition, Invensys provided a control system human machine interface (HMI) emulation and checkout for a Yokogawa DCS at the plant.

In addition, a fully integrated steady state simulation model covering the entire EO/EG process was developed using the PRO/II simulation platform.

The OTS system has been used to train the operators of TOCGC on the plant start-up and shut-down, as well as various standard and customer-specified malfunctions.

This activity commenced at the end of April 2006 to prepare the operators for the actual start-up in June 2006.

The PRO/II model will be used by the planner and process engineers for the production planning and engineering studies.

"We are pleased by the Invensys effort to deliver the OTS on time under such a tight project schedule.

The operating department found this system very helpful for them to better understand the first EO/EG plant in Thailand," said Dr Dhanes, EO/EG Project Director at TOCGC.

Chatsuda K, EO/EG OTS Project Manager at TOCGC, commented, "This is the first EO/EG plant in Thailand.

We need to have a high-fidelity OTS system to train our operators the best we can, so that the start-up of this first plant will be a success.

The OTS system delivered by Invensys helped us to meet our objective".

The successful implementation was supported by a wide range of Invensys professional services, including project management, model development, simulation network configuration, set-up, integration with the control emulation/simulation system, testing, and training programs for TOCGC technical and operational personnel.

Invensys is currently providing continuous support via the remote monitoring technology to provide the timeliest support to TOCGC OTS instructors.

The Invensys simulations utilise the flexible SIM4ME user environment, an integrated, intuitive and user friendly simulation solutions platform that uses a single graphical user interface across all of the models in the network.

This improves inter-programme data communications and leverages plant model equity for more effective command of plant and control simulation and training functions.
