Invensys engineers receive patents for improved turbo machinery speed measurement accuracy

Invensys Process Systems has announced that a team of five Invensys engineers have been awarded two US patents (numbers 6,711,513 and 6,823,275) for speed measurement accuracy improvements made to support the triple modular redundant (TMR) pulse input module The module is part of the Trident product family from the Triconex unit of Invensys Process Systems

Trident TMR technology is widely used in both safety instrumented system (SIS) and turbo machinery control applications in industrial process plants.

The US Patent and Trademark Office awarded the patents for significant improvement in speed measurement accuracy.

The technology enables more accurate measurement of shaft rotational speed on large industrial turbo machinery equipment for better speed and process control.

The technology also accomplishes the difficult task of measuring speed for very slow reciprocating engines.

David R Brown, a turbine and generator specialist for Invensys, originated the improvements.

The other Invensys team members included Matthew C Meyer, Ajay P Mishra, Jeffrey A Norris and David C Rasmussen.
