Independent Integrity Inspection have recently taken delivery of their new lightweight pressure pumps for carrying out the integrity inspection of heat exchangers and pasteurisers

The previous equipment used for this task, PCIS (Pressurised Conductivity Inspection), has been in use for over seven years: these bigger pump systems are still being successfully applied, but the new lightweight pumps have been shown to be a winner in the workplace not just by the engineers carrying out inspection tasks, but also with clients who can also see the benefit of the new equipment The new improved pumps can now delivery up to 5bar (73psi) pressure differential, reducing the time required for each test and our investment certainly paid off with our first visit to a client site resulting in the detection of a faulty single section heat exchanger

Although the heat exchanger used for chilling cream was fitted with over 140 plates, it took less than 180 seconds to show that their plate pack had a problem.

Our engineer confirmed that two plates were defective by using our portable ultrasound equipment and after the plates were replaced, the heat exchanger was re-tested using the PCIS method and the engineer was able to give it the all clear.
