Grantham Engineering celebrates Diamond Jubilee
Grantham Engineering, which manufactures the Invicta range of vibrators, is this year celebrating its 60th successful year, although the firm has seen many changes over the years!
Grantham Engineering, which manufactures the Invicta range of vibrators, is this year celebrating its 60th successful year.
The company was founded in 1946 as the Grantham Electrical Engineering Company, by Sidney Pask, initially to carry out electric motor rewinds and repairs, and electrical contracting work in the vicinity of Grantham, which is located close to Nottingham in the North Midlands of England.
The business expanded steadily over the following years and in 1958 the Company, having identified a growing market for rotary electric vibrators, produced its first industrial model.
This design proved to be a great success and was developed into a complete range of machines, which have been steadily further developed and added to.
The organisation, which is an independent company, became and remains the UK's largest manufacturer of industrial vibrators and one of the largest worldwide.
Its products, which now include pneumatic and hydraulic vibrators as well as the established rotary electric vibrators, are sold throughout the world in all countries that possess process industries.
Colin Pask took over from his father as Managing Director in 1983 and now combines this position with his previous post of Sales Director.
During his time in this position he has overseen a continuing expansion of the company, its product range and market penetration.
Colin's son Sam entered the company three years ago and he is now the third generation of the family to work for the company.
He joins an established management team of Anthony Bailey, Financial Director; Nick Garton, Works Director; Philip Turley, Technical Director, and Mike Caldwell, Sales Manager.
"We are highly focussed in our activities", says Colin Pask, "concentrating our efforts on providing products and services for this specialised market sector.
Our vibrators work in arduous conditions, where reliability and performance are paramount, and our commitment is to provide service and quality to achieve those goals.
We are constantly developing our product range to take advantage of the latest technological developments, both in design and manufacture.
It is only by monitoring the market and maintaining close contact with our customers that we can be truly responsive to their requirements".
Today Invicta still manufactures vibrators at its original, but now expanded, Grantham factory.
"We have continued to invest heavily in new CNC machining centres" says Colin "and our shop floor has changed beyond recognition over the 60 years.
However it is only by investment that we can maintain our competitive edge at a time when the price of basic commodities has been rising at rates not seen for many years".
Over the years there have been many changes in the range of products.
The early 700 Series was developed into the 800, the 900 and the K Series before the current L Series was introduced in 2000.
The drawing office at Invicta has also seen continuous investment in both hardware and software with 3-D modelling and finite element analysis used to produce optimum design and manufacturing solutions.
In response to the changing nature of the European market, base mounted BLz range vibrators, part of the L Series, comply with ATEX Directive 94/9/EC (II 2 D) for use in Zone 21 and Zone 22 environments.
These are Zones, which are defined as areas where hazardous dust may be present.
This feature is offered to our customers as standard in this range.
In addition to the BLz range Invicta offers the EBK range of explosion-proof vibrators certified for use in Zones 1 and 2 areas as defined by ATEX Directive 94/9/EC, (ATEX 95) (II 2 G).
These are areas where flammable gases, vapours and mists are potential hazards.
The ULBK range complies with Underwriters Laboratories Specification, UL674 and is approved to the North American standard for use in areas where gases and dusts may be present.
Rotary vibrators, both electric and hydraulic, are used to power vibratory feeders, screens, sizers, sieves, stock-pile and bin dischargers, and compaction tables.
The range extends from small feeders through to heavy-duty grizzlies and other machines weighing up to 10 tonnes for application in both static and mobile plant.
These machines, powered by Invicta vibrators, are found in industries as diverse as food, pharmaceuticals and chemicals, through to mining, quarrying and port installations.
