New Co-Jetix oil sampler saves $100,000 a month

A Jiskoot Co-Jetix combined JetMix and sampling system installed at a marine offload terminal in North America to replace a problematic probe-based system very quickly proved its superior performance.

With an increase in accuracy and water measurement giving savings quoted at over $100,000 a month.

The Co-Jetix was installed, tested and proved to comply with ISO 3171 by water injection.

While waiting for US Customs approval of the new installation, this major client company ran both systems and cross-compared samples, discovering that the Co-Jetix system had consistently measured substantially more water than the existing inline system.

As well as the existing system reliability problems, it had a "huge" dead volume due to the long length of the probe and sample tubing.

The receiver level indicators did not work and also caused contamination issues.

Overcoming all these problems is coupled to the fact that the Co-Jetix costs considerably less to maintain than a system inserted in the line.

Installed on a 42in line handling various crude types, the Jiskoot system was initially tested by injecting water at the dock and running the flow at less than 0.5ft/sec, with results described as "remarkable".

Certification was passed without problem.

The system's improved mixing, lower measurement uncertainty and large inlet enable it to measure as much as 0.113% more water than traditional insertion probe sampling.

While widely reported to pay for itself in less than six months, in refineries and terminals where performance is based on import quality it has been proved, in fact, to pay for itself in less than three months.
