All three successes centered on John Crane Safematic innovative SmartFlow Seal Water Control System and its application at a Carlsberg Tetley brewery in the UK.
By using seal water to cool a seal and lubricate the faces only when actually required, the intelligent SmartFlow device can generate seal water savings of up to 97% when compared to a flow meter regulated control system.
By using John Crane Safematic SmartFlow in place of a once-through flush-to-drain system, Carlsberg has achieved water savings of 93% (equivalent to an annual saving of almost 12,000 tonnes) while still maintaining the continuous operational cleanliness essential for this type of food and beverage application.
John Crane also sponsored the BPMA Lifetime Achievement Award, which was given to John Bower, Manager of Engineering and Technology with Flowserve, who was judged to have made a significant and consistent contribution to the pump industry.
