The largest single order for advanced LaserFace sealing technology, of over Euro262,000, will use LaserFace-equipped sealing equipment at the Hydrofluoric Acid Alkylation plant at Sarroch, in Sardinia

John Crane has received the largest single order ever to be placed for its advanced LaserFace sealing technology.

With a value of over Euro262,000, the order will see LaserFace-equipped sealing equipment being installed at the Hydrofluoric (HF) Acid Alkylation plant at Sarroch, in Sardinia, which is operated by Saras.

Intended primarily for use in difficult seal applications, LaserFace incorporates unique seal face structures that greatly enhance performance and operational life, while also reducing seal power consumption by up to 50%.

It provides increased reliability and reduced friction and wear, as full interface lubrication is provided even where low vapour pressures are encountered.

The proven ability to minimise leakage and also offer high reliability in low pressure temperature margins (a traditional problem when sealing light hydrocarbon-based products) makes LaserFace ideal for process applications in the petrochemical, chemical, oil and gas industries.

Saras is one of the leading industrial organisations in Europe, and has an established relationship with John Crane in Italy.

Its Sarroch plant required a simple, easily managed sealing solution which offered increased safety, zero emissions and an increase in both plant reliability and MTBF, Mean Time Between Failure, along with modern leak detection and alarm facilities.

The John Crane integrated solution to these requirements centres around both 73mm and 89mm versions of its LaserFace equipped T48XP/S28LD+SB seals, plus associated gas control panels.

Although the company has previously provided similar solutions to other HF plants, the system supplied to Saras will be carefully tailored to meet the customer specific requirements, reflecting the individual partnership approach which John Crane adopts to each of its customers.
