Non-contact type 2800X sealing in non-turbo use
A new John Crane brochure describes the Type 2800X non-contacting dual seals, outlining their particular suitability to large-bore, non-turbo rotating equipment applications
"We are investing heavily in the future of our turbomachinery capability and it is our customers who will feel the benefit from this," says Turbomachinery General Manager Dave Hill.
"The finances involved in today's oil and gas markets mean that customers demand first class products backed by first-class service and this initiative will greatly improve the John Crane ability to satisfy those demands".
The investment programme will centre on the EAA headquarters in Slough, UK.
Implementation work has already begun with the creation of a new Reliability Group which is aimed at maximising asset reliability and reducing the cost of ownership.
While seals are often seen as the weak link in the chain, typical seal problems are complex issues that encompass much more than the immediate seal environment.
John Crane's new multi-skilled diagnostic team - which includes five different disciplines - is now able to rapidly identify the root causes of any problems, and this has already generated major improvements in customer support.
Test facilities will also receive a significant boost from the new investment.
Five new test rigs will be installed, and these will allow John Crane to reproduce real-world conditions with greater accuracy than ever before.
Automated reliability functions built-in to the control systems will enable John Crane to build an increasingly comprehensive database of test information, which will be used to improve the speed and accuracy of the company's response to any issues that occur in the field.
"We are looking very carefully at the demands of our customers and the marketplace" adds Dave Hill.
"We believe that these substantial investments will step change our capability and service, making John Crane the supplier of choice to the industry.".
