John Crane emphasises global leadership at MEOS 07

A John Crane EAA product story
Edited by the Processingtalk editorial team Feb 2, 2007

John Crane will present a full range of products at MEOS 2007, even though they are already a familiar name for many visitors, as the leading international manufacturer of engineered sealing solutions

As the leading international manufacturer of engineered sealing solutions and associated products John Crane will already be a familiar name for many visitors to MEOS 2007.

Gas sealing expertise.

The John Crane Turbomachinery Division recently received a Queen's Award for Enterprise for its success in growing its business and this reflects their position as a major supplier to the oil and gas industries.

At MEOS the company will display various items from its product range including the advanced gas seal technology that has found numerous applications throughout the world.

This technology has been especially successful in the Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) sector with the company having been selected as a supplier to the vast majority of the LNG plants built around the world over the past three years.

The recent start of a major investment programme will help John Crane maintain its success in this area.

Transmitting power.

Also displayed will be examples of John Crane's well-proven Metastream high-performance power transmission couplings.

With a proven track record in thousands of applications worldwide these couplings provide a wide variety of power transmission solutions.

Their rugged construction and reliable performance is typified by the TSRC coupling which will be on display.

Intended as an ideal replacement for gear couplings the TSRC is designed for short DBSE (distance between shaft ends) applications and features a split spacer design that allows the membranes to be replaced without moving the connected machines.

The TSRC offers a true 'fit and forget' solution with zero maintenance requirements, low imposed loads and overload protection collars.

* Heavy-duty sealing.

John Crane will also be exhibiting examples of the mechanical seals on which its reputation is founded.

Prominent among these will be the Type 8600 range which represents the John Crane 'standard' heavy-duty product for the end user market.

This new generation of high performance seals combine traditional John Crane strengths and benefits with the latest advances in materials and surface texturing.

The result is a family of seals which provides the highest levels of reliability in the most extreme conditions and which can operate at over 200bar and at speeds in excess of 50m/s.

Able to cover a wide range of applications without the need for design changes the 8600 seals are suited to a whole host of oil, gas, refinery and process industry duties, and their robust construction and proven heritage also makes them ideal for remote pipeline installations.

* The LaserFace advantages.

Continuing the theme of advanced sealing solutions, visitors to the John Crane stand will also be able to view examples of their LaserFace technology.

Designed specifically to improve seal performance in low vapour pressure situations LaserFace technology uses a patented pattern of inlet and return microgrooves on the seal face.

These provide full fluid film lubrication at the sealing interface, drastically reducing wear and yet also preventing excessive leakage.

Consequently, LaserFace seals offer higher performance levels, reduced power consumption, lower operating costs and increased 'Mean Time Between Repair' intervals.

Seal life is greatly extended, and a single seal can be operated close to the vapour pressure with no additional cooling.

* Petroleum standards.

Completing the product line-up on the stand will be samples of John Crane seals which satisfy the specifications laid down by the American Petroleum Institute (API)682, 3rd edition, This underlines the John Crane ability to supply qualification-tested mechanical seals that comply with key international standards.

These product fall into three basic categories which are: the Category 1 rotating pusher seal with O-ring and multiple springs, the Category 2 rotating metal bellows seal using O-rings and the Category 3 high-temperature metal bellows seal which features flexible graphite packings.

The attendance of John Crane at MEOS reflects its high level of commitment to customers in this region.

This commitment is underlined by the extensive network of Middle Eastern service centres which the company has created.

Providing customers with easy, local access to the extensive portfolio of John Crane customer support services, this constantly expanding network includes facilities in many different locations including Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Yemen, Syria and Iran.

John Crane EAA will be present at Stand number 2025 at MEOS 2007 for further discussions.
