JM unveils methanol synthesis catalysts

A Johnson Matthey Catalysts product story
Edited by the Processingtalk editorial team Jun 25, 2009

Johnson Matthey (JM) Catalysts launched of a new generation of methanol synthesis catalysts during the International Methanol Technology Operators Forum (IMTOF) in Amsterdam.

This development, known as KatalcoJM Apico, is intended to allow methanol plant operators to make more from less by increasing efficiency and to add valuable methanol production to existing plants while reducing the capital and operating costs of new plants.

KatalcoJM Apico is manufactured in a new catalyst manufacturing facility built with proprietary technology at JM's UK site.

Andrew Wright, managing director of the JM Syngas and GTL business, said: 'We are extremely excited to bring KatalcoJM Apico to the market and offer our customers the ability to generate greater value from their operations and benefit from the new generation of catalyst developments.

'Methanol is gathering greater importance as an energy molecule and we believe this new catalyst is the biggest change that the methanol industry has experienced since we first introduced copper-zinc catalysts and the low-pressure methanol process in 1962.

'KatalcoJM Apico will give methanol plant operators millions of tonnes in additional methanol and associated profits and contribute towards development of a more prosperous methanol industry,' he added.
