The new Type 6189A sensor from Kistler for monitoring both mould cavity pressure and part surface temperature is the smallest in the world, with a front diameter of only 2.5mm

The new sensor, part of the Kistler range of sensors for the injection moulding industry, is suitable for use with multi-cavity moulds producing very small parts The quartz pressure measuring element, sensitivity 6.5 pC/bar, has two, Type K thermocouple leads fed through and welded to the front face of the sensor to achieve a rapid reaction to changes in temperature

The Type 6189A sensor has a range of 0 to 2,000 bar and 0 to 200C.

The miniature connector used on the sensor can be replaced easily, if damaged.

In addition to providing important information about the mould temperature settling behaviour during production start-up, pressure and temperature monitoring can be used to control the moulding process automatically to identify the steady mould temperature state and release the parts.

This will improve productivity and reduce rejection levels, especially when moulding precision components.
