High sensitivity pressure sensors for foam moulds

A Kistler Instruments product story
Edited by the Processingtalk editorial team Sep 4, 2007

Increased popularity of foam moulding techniques to reduce component weight and the incidence of voids has created a requirement for highly sensitive pressure sensors for monitoring cavity pressure

Typically, cavity pressure for compact injection moulding processes can be around 400 bar, while the pressure for foam moulding can be as low as 40 bar.

Conventional pressure sensors are unsuited to low cavity pressure monitoring and Kistler have introduced a range of mould cavity sensors using HighSens technology to measure cavity pressures with sensitivity four times higher than standard sensors.

Available in three diameters, Type 6178 2.5 mm, Type 6177A 4mm and Type 61772A 6mm, each providing reliable resolution of the pressure profile down to 40 bar.

All types are compatible with existing wiring and electronic equipment.
