Klubersynth saves further energy in brewery

A Kluber Lubrication GB product story
Edited by the Processingtalk editorial team Apr 17, 2008

Following a successful trial of Klubersynth in Elevator gearboxes at a major brewery, further trials on their conveyor gearboxes led to energy savings approaching GBP100k per annum

The Small Pack department consists of 3 bottling lines and 3 canning lines with a total of 1078 conveyor gearboxes in place.

In accordance with Kluber recommendations as previously trialed on the Elevator gearboxes, the Brewery engineers, along with Kluber, identified a trial conveyor gearbox and amp measurements were taken 3 times a day over a five day period with the existing mineral lubricant, to act as a reference.

The oil was replaced with Klubersynth UH1 6-220 and the exercise repeated.

Once again after the five day trial had been completed, the energy consumption had reduced from 1.58 amps to 1.25 amps, a reduction of 0.33 amps.

This equates to a 20.9% energy saving compared to the mineral oil product.

By converting over to the NSF H1 registered Klubersynth UH1 6-220 the Brewery now meets its food grade compliance policy on the bottling and canning lines: oil drain intervals can be extended to at least 5 years thus prompting savings on maintenance.

In addition to meeting their food grade policy they were also able to reduce lubricant spend due to increased lubrication intervals, meeting their required maintenance savings.

However in addition the above savings, over a full year, a reduction in energy of 20.9% across all 1,078 gearboxes would generate a saving in energy alone in excess of GBP100,000.

The Brewery has since agreed too convert all 1078 conveyor gearboxes over to the Klubersynth UH1 6-220 during a phased 2 year period.
