500th robotic waterjet cutting system
KMT Cutting Systems, the world's leading supplier of robotic waterjet cutting and routing systems, has announced the sale of their 500th robotic waterjet cutting system
KMT Cutting Systems (formerly ABB I-R Waterjet Systems), the world's leading supplier of robotic waterjet cutting and routing systems, has announced the sale of the company's 500th robotic waterjet cutting system.
The 500th sale to Avanzar Interiors / Johnson Controls based at San Antonio in Texas, USA, is very significant not only because it achieves a unique sales milestone in the industry, it also heralds a new future for KMT Cutting Systems.
The system will be used for trimming headliners for the Toyota Tundra.
The 500th system is the first from KMT to be based on a totally new design developed by the company - the Open Gantry Concept (OGC) - and it is the first system from the company to utilise Motoman robots.
Since its purchase by KMT from the ABB Group, KMT Cutting Systems continues to be a worldwide strategic partner with ABB Robotics, but the company can now offer customers the option of using alternative robot brands in their robotic waterjet cutting and routing systems.
The OGC is a new system solution from KMT Cutting Systems aimed at trim applications, particularly for interior components of cars and other vehicles such as carpets, headliners, bootliners, insulation mats and dashboards made from soft materials such as polyurethane foam, moulded fibres, sandwich materials or composites.
The OGC is an open system featuring inverted robots mounted on a gantry frame to provide optimum reach for cutting applications.
The OGC offers modular solutions for waterjet, routing or other cutting processes and has the flexibility to readily incorporate changes and upgrades in the future.
The system can be used both as a stand-alone station or as part of a continuous production process with loading on one side of the machine and unloading on the other.
The system is compact and can be transported in a 40 ft ISO container.
Installation on site takes less than a week.
The OGC joins the widest range of systems and options available on the market, ensuring customers have the most precise cutting solution for their products with regard to the required capacity, the production environment, operating costs, flexibility, safety and ergonomics, as well as compatibility with any other existing waterjet and routing systems.
The evaluation provided by KMT Cutting Systems begins in the very early stages of projects, to ensure that the most optimum trimming solution is delivered well in time for pre-production and production needs.
Complementing the waterjet and routing systems manufactured by KMT, the company offers a wide range of services such as virtual simulation, robot program audits and offline programming, to analyse processes with regard to system design, comfort of utilisation and, of course, productivity and cost efficiency.
