Targa-10 industrial water treatment in Europe
Koch Membrane Systems (KMS) has announced the immediate availability of the tried and tested Targa-10 ultrafiltration hollow fibre membrane cartridge to the European market
Koch Membrane Systems (KMS) has announced the immediate availability of the tried and tested Targa-10 ultrafiltration hollow fibre membrane cartridge to the European market.
Already widely used in water treatment applications across the United States and Asia, the Targa -10 hollow fibre cartridge is certified to ANSI/NSF Standard 61.
The 10-inch (254mm) diameter design provides 50% more effective membrane area per cartridge when compared to its 8-inch predecessor.
For water treatment systems the Targa-10 cartridge allows up to 50% reduction in floor space (depending on flow demand and stage design).
Less floor space means reduced building costs.
Additionally, a reduction in the number of skids lowers shipping and installation costs.
The cartridges feature redesigned components providing a quicker and more user-friendly connection.
Targa-10 cartridges are suitable for a variety of industrial water treatment applications including filtering water for carbonated soft drinks, bottled drinking water, power plant make up, microelectronics and pharmaceutical manufacturing.
The Targa-10 cartridge contains up to 870 square feet (81 square metres) of hollow fibre membrane (depending on the chosen fibre) in the 10-inch diameter x 72-inch (1.83m) long configuration and 550 square feet (51 square metres) in the 10-inch x 48-inch (1.22m) configuration.
The Targa-10 cartridges can be supplied with one of two types of membrane fibres, the PMC with a 100,000 nominal Molecular Weight Cut-Off (MWCO) or the PMX with a 10,000 nominal MWCO.
The 35 mil (0.9mm) diameter fibre may be used for general water applications.
The 43 mil (1.1 mm) fibre is better for highly turbid streams.
The fibres are made from polysulphone and are pH tolerant over a broad range (1.5 to 13), and chlorine resistant up to 200,000 ppmhours at a pH of 10.5.
The large diameter cartridges offer the benefits of smaller filtration systems and substantial savings on building and capital costs.
Commenting on the news, Dr Ian Elson, Senior Vice President and General Manager for Koch Membrane Systems European Division said, "We have listened carefully to the water industry and the Targa-10 cartridge delivers significantly improved performance at a very competitive cost.
We are very excited at the prospects for the Targa-10 product range in Europe as it has already proved its effectiveness in the United States and Asia, and offers real benefits to potential European customers".
