Asahi Glass Fluoropolymers UK has installed five Krohne UFM 3030 flowmeters at its manufacturing plant in Lancashire, for monitoring hot ultra-pure water in PTFE production
This new Krohne inline meter delivers precise measurement totally independent of viscosity, density, temperature, pressure and conductivity, and offers exceptional resistance to aggressive chemicals, making it certainly the most universally applicable ultrasonic meter available.
The use of a third beam in the flow measurement, in combination with advanced digital signal processing (DSP) and innovative patented sensors, enables the UFM 3030 to produce outstanding accuracy of 0.5percent, with long-term repeatability of +/- 0.2percent.
Due to a robust sensor design the meter can handle extreme temperature and pressure ranges.

It also has a large diameter range (1" to 120") and a high turndown ratio, which enable it to begin measuring from zero flow.
The 3 beam meter does not require any filters, additional supports or grounding, making it simple to install and keeping costs to a minimum.
It also delivers the inherent advantages of ultrasonic flow measurement: the UFM 3030 has no moving parts to break down or deteriorate and is virtually maintenance-free; it is non-invasive and suffers no pressure loss, delivering improved efficiency and lower energy costs across the whole flow measuring operation.
Streamlined production, efficient design and increased demand for ultrasonic technology have enabled world-leading flow meter specialists Krohne to undercut the cost of comparable systems.
Ultrasonic flow meters work by aiming beams of ultrasonic sound waves diagonally across the pipe and measuring the difference in sound transit times.
The measured flow velocity of the fluid is multiplied by the pipe cross section to calculate the volume of flow; using more beams averages out the effect of edge turbulence in the pipe and consequently produces more accurate results.
The inherent advantages of the 3-beam system over conventional mechanical meters, combined with low-maintenance and high-accuracy ultrasonics, constitute the strongest 'whole-life costs' case for a move to multi-beam technology.
The third beam allows the detection of, and compensation for, laminar or turbulent flow, delivering very high accuracy with only negligible pressure loss.
A unique optional feature introduced with the UFM 3030 is an easy stage batching function with the option to pre-programme a pre-established volume into the converter so that a digital flow output signal can be emitted when the desired amount is reached.
The batching function is particularly useful for duties such as the blending of crude oil or refined products in the petrochemical industry.
All Krohne flowmeters are subjected to pre-delivery wet calibration by highly accurate direct volume comparison on calibration rigs that have the highest certified accuracy in the world.
All Krohne measurement methods are based on international primary standards, and each meter is issued with its own certificate guaranteeing the highest possible accuracy.
