Krohne has supplied five high temperature Optimass 9000 Coriolis mass flowmeters which have successfully measured the flow of carbon black at a production plant in Europe

Carbon black is an additive used to strengthen and improve the durability and performance of a range of mechanical rubber products, such as tyres, as well as paints, plastics and coatings The oil-based material is particularly difficult to measure accurately because of its high temperature, viscosity and density

The Optimass flowmeters measure and control the rate at which FCC (fluid catalytic cracking) oil flows from vessels into a reactor.

The substance is maintained at a temperature of 230C and flows between 0 and 8000kg per hour at a pressure of 23 bar.

The material is extremely dense, between 1.05 and 1.1 g/cm, and has a viscosity of between 120 - 330 cps (SUS99C).

Krohne was chosen to supply the flowmeters because of the level of technical support it was able to provide through its local agents.

The Optimass also matched the customer requirements for measurement accuracy, performance and price.

The Krohne high temperature Optimass 9000 is ideally suited to measuring material like carbon black.

The instrument will measure mass flow, volume flow and density of materials with process temperatures that range from 0 to 350C.

The Optimass series 9000 is available in five sizes covering a wide span of customer flow rate applications.

A complete range of process connections are available including all common flange patterns.

Options for the 9000 series include integral or remote mounted electronics as well as factory fitted thermal insulation and fluid heating jackets.

The 9000 series also incorporates innovative dual redundancy electronics.

This makes maintaining the instrument straight-forward with 'plug and play' interchangeability of electronic components.

Electronic modules are also common across all Optimass flowmeters, which means customers can keep spares holdings and costs to a minimum.
