ABM, a major supplier of mixing, distillation and fermentation systems, has chosen the Krohne Optimass 1300 Coriolis mass flowmeter for a dosing solution it has supplied to a major UK drinks producer

ABM needed a meter that could accurately monitor liquid flow rates up to 40,000 litres per hour The meter is used to precisely control the dosing of fructose from a high strength storage tank to delivery to the final beverage within a recipe-based system

The flow rate of the fructose into the main product can increase or decrease slightly during the delivery, and the meter is required to detect this variation.

The flow rate of fructose passing through the meter is zero to 3,000 litres per hour.

The Optimass 1300 produces a pulse train related to the volume passing through it.

As the stock product is pumped through the system the system is able to count the pulses and correct the dosage accordingly throughout the run to ensure that the finished product adheres to the recipe by accurately measuring the amount of the ingredient being fed into the final mix.

The Optimass 1300 uses the Krohne modular electronics converters, which can be fitted across its range of flowmeters.

This allows an instrument to be supplied with a converter to suit its intended application, providing either basic functionality or a high-end specification with diagnostics capability.

Allan Rogerson of ABM said: "The system is computer controlled and recipe driven so that the stock product is delivered to the system via the meter at the correct strength and dosage.

The system looks at the recipe and delivers stock products through various flowmeters which measure additions of the stock to produce the finished product".

The Optimass 1300 reliably records mass flow, density, temperature and also the concentration of the liquids.

The straight twin measuring tube is made of stainless steel as standard and features an optimised flow splitter for minimal pressure loss guaranteeing the ability to easily clean and drain the tube.

It is also independent of the type of installation as well as external influences.

Hygienic connections are available, making it ideal for the food and beverage industry.

The Optimass 1300 from Krohne will also quantify density, volume flow and temperature as well as derived units or scales, irrespective of the pressure, viscosity or conductivity of the material being measured.

Allan Rogerson added: "We try to use Krohne flowmeters wherever we can.

This latest instrument provides our customer with an economical solution to flow measurement that is highly accurate, flexible and versatile.

It enables them to cost-effectively improve production control and reduce costs, improve efficiency and increase product quality".

Building on the success of the award winning Optimass 7000, the Optimass 1300 has been designed to provide a high-performance, general purpose flow measurement solution - at an entry level price.

The instrument is compact, fitted with secondary containment as standard, in either SS304L or 316L stainless steel, and is also available with a liquid/steam heating option.
