Laboratory Impex Systems has recently established a team to extend their expertise in radiation detection and monitoring equipment for flow measurement in stacks and ventilation systems.

Complete engineered turnkey projects will cover initial site survey, recommendations for location and type of monitoring system, and quotation for supply The typical stack monitoring installation will use flow proportional gas sampling, using either an insertable Pitot tube or a Pitot tube array, to monitor the exhaust gas flow

Isokinetic sample tubes will be designed and mounted, possibly in a special section of ductwork with the flow measurement and flow conditioning grid, and Lab Impex will provide the necessary installation and commissioning service.

Associated sample extraction pumps, flow measurement and sample monitoring equipment is mounted in a specially designed cabinet, with recorders and remote signalling to interface with the plant control system.

Typically radioactive airborne particulates would be monitored by the Lab Impex microprocessor based CMS2000 Alpha and Beta Continuous Air Monitor, field proven on most nuclear installations in the UK, and used for monitoring of ALARA exposure levels.

Other detectors are available for radiometric monitoring, including Iodine 129 and Krypton.

After such analysis, the sample stream is returned to the main exhaust duct.

This new venture extends the capability of Lab Impex Systems further into the custom engineering of radiation hazard monitoring for laboratories, power plants and research establishments worldwide.
