Holkham Accel-o-Fac plant all sewered up
Matching a new wastewater treatment system to anticipated flow and loading characteristics is a critical part of the design process, but start up is not a problem with the Accel-o-Fac plant
Many biological treatment processes don't function too well if the applied load is significantly below the design load In first time sewerage schemes the requirement to apply near enough full load to the treatment plant at the time of commissioning can be something of a headache

Aero-Fac wastewater treatment system for Anglia
Construction has commenced at the new Aero-Fac environmentally friendly wastewater treatment plant that will serve the village of Sutton St James in the Lincolnshire fens for Anglian Water
Timing of connections has to be carefully planned or additional BOD load has to be tankered in, often at considerable cost.
By way of a contrast, the Accel-o-Fac system from LAS International imposes no such constraints having the ability to accommodate a wide range of flow and loadings without compromising treatment.
An example of the flexibility and tolerance of this system can be seen at the village of Holkham in Norfolk.
This 500PE Accel-o-Fac plant was commissioned in 2006, at which time only a hotel and a couple of private houses were connected.
Post commissioning, the developers have been able to plan and action the remaining connections with minimal disruption to villagers, completing the final connection almost exactly two years after the plant was commissioned.
Throughout this period the Accel-o-Fac plant has operated correctly, with minimal operational involvement and an average daily cost of just 75p/day.
As well as being unaffected by the extensive period of low loading, the plant at Holkham has been designed to handle wide seasonal changes due to the effects of tourism.
Storm events are also accommodated with a design capacity of 14 times dry weather flow.
Praised by the local planning authority for its soft engineering and sustainable approach to sewage treatment, the Holkham plant is proving to be an elegant, odour-free solution to the wastewater treatment needs of this village.
