A GSM (Global System for Mobile communication) modem can be used to link PLCs, data loggers, security and surveillance systems, offering a natural and easy platform for wireless automation that is more flexible than traditional radio modems.
With the ability to call pre-set numbers or send/receive SMS-messages the GSM-modem is ideal for alarm monitoring and remote diagnostics for unmanned stations.
The Westermo GSM-modem can communicate with other GSM-modems, traditional analogue modem and ISDN-adapters.
Wireless data communication over a GSM network can be used instead of normal wirebound communication in several industrial applications.
There are many benefits of wireless applications, such as the reduced cost of installation, but GSM networks also offer other important benefits.
The data transfer service is just one of many that could be used in a lot of different applications.
The Westermo GD-01 modem has been designed for use in industrial applications and has several features that are normally not present on standard GSM modems, providing a reliable data communication link.
The GD-01 is a DIN-rail mounted modem with RS-232 interface in either a 9-pin D-sub or in a 5-pin screw connector.
It has a specification that includes.
* Dual band GSM 900/1800Mhz.
* GPRS Serial interface.
* RS-232 D-sub or screw connection.
*160 characters SMS .
* DTR-dialling.
* 12-36 V DC Power supply.
* Din-Rail mountable LED indicators.
* Communication using GSM modems.
The GD-01 modem provides RS-232/V.24 up to 9 600 bit/s connections over GSM networks.
It can be used instead of serial cable to link PLCs, data loggers, security and surveillance system or for data acquisition.
It is possible to have an external signal (DTR) to trigger the modem to call a pre-set number.
This makes it ideal for alarm monitoring and remote diagnostics from unmanned stations.
It is also possible to send/receive SMS-messages up to 160 characters as well as fax functions.
It can communicate with other GSM-modems but also traditional analogue modem such as TD-32 or ISDN-adapters like ID-90.
All configuration is made by AT-commands similar to standard analogue PSTN modems.
The GS-01 uses the standardised GSM network on 900/1 800 MHz.
This makes it possible for world wide use (not USA).
The housing is profiled aluminium and has been designed to be easy to use and simple to install.
