Photo sensors from Leuze awarded EHEDG certificate

A Leuze Electronic product story
Edited by the Processingtalk editorial team Aug 14, 2008

Leuze electronic has introduced a photoelectric sensor series capable of withstanding the frequent and intensive cleaning and disinfection cycles demanded by a growing number of processing industries

In addition to protection ratings IP67 and IP69K, Ecolab certification and also the Leuze electronic own self-imposed CleanProof+ standards, the 53 series is now also certified to EHEDG.

Whether the application is for protection or detection, with its 55 and 53 opto-sensor series Leuze has created a series to support sensing demands throughout many tiers of operation in manufacturing, processing and packaging, and industry sectors such as food, beverage, pharmaceutical and even cosmetics where strict plant hygiene standards need to be enforced.

In contrast to the stainless steel 55 series, the series 53 sensor design has avoided the use of the customary fastening holes in a bid to eliminate any foothold for the accumulation of dirt deposits: instead it features a fitting at the cable terminal.

The hygienic design of optosensor series 53 has also been certified by the Weihenstephan Research Centre for Brewery and Food Quality at the Technical University of Munich in accordance with EHEDG recommendation #8 (Hygienic Equipment Design Criteria).

On principle, this qualification includes the requirements imposed by standards DIN EN 1672-2: 2005, DIN EN ISO 14159:2004 and the Machine Directive 98/37/EEC, as well as the revised version 2006/42/EEC.

These latest photoelectric sensors are available in three versions (the standard, Wash-down and Hygiene designs), all offering identical functionality scope with similar dimensions for easier standardisation and integration into plant and machinery.
