Drives power innovative dry ice cleaning
machine

Lenze smd drives provide the flexibility, simplicity and small footprint required to drive the compressed air systems used in the revolutionary IceTech mobile dry ice blasting machines

By offering a non-toxic, non-conductive and non-abrasive alternative to traditional industrial cleaning methods, the Danish based company IceTech has found a growing worldwide market in the food, pharmaceutical, electronics and finishing industries To capitalise on the success of the products in non-European markets, IceTech required the smd drives to operate on variable voltage inputs therefore avoiding the need to change motors and product design

IceTech have developed a broad range of static and portable dry ice cleaning machines that can be used to remove dirt, coatings and lubricants.

The non-abrasive nature of dry ice blasting (it vaporises on contact with the surface being cleaned) offers advantages over traditional sand and plastic particle based industrial cleaning methods by avoiding damage to surfaces, contamination and the risk of waste material becoming trapped in moving components and hard to reach places.

Any commercial cleaning device needs to be tough in order to be a success and so IceTech required a simple and reliable drive that was flexible, but also field proven and competitively priced.

The IceTech KG range of blasting equipment employs a high-pressure pump powered by a single three phase 230V 50Hz motor to propel the dry ice pellets into a compressed air stream.

As part of a continual programme of product improvement, IceTech investigated the most effective drive system to use on their latest range of machines.

After consulting Lenze Denmark, the company specified 0.75kW and 1.5kW smd frequency inverter drives to regulate the motor and pump speed, as they were the simplest and most economic units available for the application.

When exporting to countries like Japan, IceTech also needed to modify the machines to operate with a single-phase 90V supply.

Lenze smd drives provided the answer again with an innovative 'voltage doubling' feature that will automatically double the output voltage, allowing the same motor size to be used in the Japanese export models as in European models.

Further economic benefits include the fact that these smd drives also use the same footprint, avoiding the need for panel reconfiguration and associated design costs.

The smd range offers 3phase AC output from both single phase and 3phase supply voltages.

Options include DIN rail mounting kits, removable heat sinks for through-cabinet mounting and dynamic braking units, which are easily mounted within the control cabinets. Request a free brochure from Lenze ...
