Stainless steel bodied motors and motor/gearboxes from Marlin Stainless, that eliminate corrosion and enhance plant hygiene, will be on show at the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health meeting

Stainless steel bodied motors and motor/gearboxes from Marlin Stainless, a division of AEG Electric Motors, are being exhibited on stand AC at the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health Conference/Exhibition at the Bournemouth International Centre, from 5 -7 September The motors and gearboxes enhance hygiene because they are easy-to-clean, tolerate a full hose-down, and eliminate contamination hazards - and totally abolish the need for the dubious practice of 'bagging'

They also eliminate problems relating to flaking paint and rusty surfaces.

Plus, being smooth bodied with no cooling fins and having a round terminal box and no name plate (model details are etched into the actual machine casing), the motors have no awkward angles or crevices for possible contaminants to become trapped.

Both the motors and gearboxes are IP66 rated and the Marlin Stainless AC 3-phase motors are IEC metric dimensioned so are fully interchangeable with standard motors, either as original equipment or retrofit items.

Motor ratings: 0.18 to 7.5 kW in metric frame sizes up to 132 as TEFC machines.

Smaller units (up to 0.75 kW) are also available from 63 frame size as TENV machines.

The worm gearboxes have centre distances of 31, 42 and 61mm with ratios from 5:1 to 75:1.

Torques range from 0.9Nm to 208Nm and options include gears with torque pins, food spec lubricants and various output shaft designs.

Manufactured to withstand high-pressure wash-downs, even when employing chemical cleaning agents, these motors from Marlin are ideal for the food, beverage, pharmaceutical and process industries.

The corrosion resistance and hygienic characteristics of these 304 stainless steel motors - no paint to chip or flake - are enhanced by the smooth exteriors of the motors, having no cooling fins or nameplates to harbour germs and dirt.

Complementing these hygienic design features are an NTN Blue double lip seal and a Gamma seal fitted on the shaft to guard against any risk of ingress to the motor.

For internal protection against moisture, and provide compatibility with inverter control, the motor stator windings are double vacuum and pressure impregnated and the phases are insulated.

To overcome the inherent condensation problem associated with electric motors exposed to internal and external temperature differences, the Marlin motors have four quadrant drain ports in each end shield that will accept 'T' drain plugs on removal of grub screws.

This ensures that there will always be a drain plug at the lowest point of the motor.
