Laser diffraction on-stream particle
size analyser

Outokumpu Technology and Malvern Process Systems have announced the successful completion of a major collaborative project, to develop a new laser diffraction-based on-stream particle size analyser

Outokumpu Technology (Espoo, Finland) and Malvern Process Systems, a division of Malvern Instruments (Malvern, UK), have announced the successful completion of a major collaborative project The work has resulted in the development of a new laser diffraction-based on-stream particle size analyser for use in slurry applications, and is ideal for use in minerals operations

The new PSI 500, which will be marketed world-wide exclusively by Outokumpu, uses the established Malvern Insitec real-time on-line particle sizing platform, incorporated into a system that allows automatic sampling direct from the minerals processing line every 10 to 30 seconds.

It includes a fully automated, highly sophisticated diluter unit that ensures delivery of appropriate sample concentrations to the optical sensor.

Commenting on the collaborative development, Matti Kongas, Product Manager for Outokumpu Technology said: "Many of our clients have indicated the need for a broadband on-line particle size analysis solution.

The partnership with Malvern Process Systems allows us to extend our product offering to lower sizes, with the phenomenal resolution and accuracy of laser diffraction.

Doing so complements well our current on-line sizer, the PSI200, which has currently over 300 installations world-wide".

Craig Howarth, Business Director, Malvern Process Systems, said: "Malvern Insitec on-line particle sizers are now in widespread use across many industrial processes.

It has been a pleasure to work with Outokumpu Technology and this collaboration exemplifies Malvern Process Systems successful partnering strategy, which sees us working with companies who share both our vision of technology leadership and our focus on meeting the real needs of our customers".
