Nano-sized particle and Zetasizer at Pittcon

A Malvern Instruments product story

Malvern Instruments will exhibit their latest particle characterisation systems for laboratory-based, on-line, and at-line analysis at Pittcon 2004, together with Bohlin rheometers

Malvern Instruments will exhibit their latest particle characterisation systems for laboratory-based, on-line, and at-line analysis at Pittcon 2004, together with rheometers from the Bohlin range.

This follows the Malvern acquisition of Bohlin Instruments in October 2003.

Interest in nanotechnology is currently very high and the Malvern Zetasizer Nano ZS will make its Pittcon debut.

The system, which was launched in June 2003, combines the best technologies for the measurement of particle size, zeta potential and molecular weight of nano-sized particles and molecules.

The Zetasizer Nano ZS measures particle size, from 0.6 nm to 6 microns, of a wide range of sample types, from the highly dilute through to high concentration suspensions and emulsions.

Unique technology has enabled the development of the world's first fully disposable cell for zeta potential measurement, simplifying the measurement process and ensuring no possibility of contamination.

The compact cell design allows zeta potential measurement of samples as small as 0.75 ml.

The versatility of the three-in-one Zetasizer Nano ZS means that it is already finding wide application.

Current uses include DNA transfection; protein conformation and crystallization studies; pharmaceutical formulation; and water treatment.

Colloid science research into true nanometer-size particles, such as the quantum dots of cadmium selenide cluster molecules, is another growing application.

The Malvern Instruments team will be available throughout the show to discuss individual particle characterisation and rheology applications.
