Malvern Instruments will make significant contributions at forthcoming meetings organised by ILASS (Institute for Liquid Atomisation and Spray Systems), through sponsorship, exhibition participation and the presentation of scientific papers.

Malvern Instruments will be a major sponsor and exhibitor at the ILASS-Europe conference to be held in Nottingham (UK) from 6-8 September 2004 and will present a paper entitled: "Using laser diffraction as a screening tool for dry powder inhaler (DPI) formulations".

This describes the use of the Malvern Spraytec system in the pharmaceutical industry and how it can be applied to understanding the atomisation dynamics of aerosol-based drug delivery systems.

Malvern Instruments diffraction products team will also be present at the ILASS-Asia conference to be held in Shanghai from 22 - 24 August 2004 where they will again present a paper describing the use of Spraytec in the pharmaceutical industry.

Malvern Spraytec system is designed for real time, high-speed particle size measurements in aerosols and sprays.

It has a broad measuring range from 0.5 to 850 microns, with high-speed data acquisition enabling one measurement every 0.4 milliseconds.

This not only allows for the study of temporal fluctuations in spray particle size distributions but also makes possible the characterization of rapid, pulsed sprays such as those produced by pharmaceutical inhalers.

As well as its well-established use in the pharmaceutical industry, Spraytec is employed in a wide variety of industrial applications, including the characterisation of fuel injector systems, paint and coatings sprays, and in general atomizer research and development.
