Utility consultant, McKinnon and Clarke, claims that many organisations will be able to offset the cost of proposed water price changes by reviewing their water bills and consumption.

As a result of their audits McKinnon and Clarke are often able to generate significant reductions in clients' expenditure on water and wastewater services.

UK industry and commerce uses over four billion litres of water per day, and with water bills due to rise by on average 7.6pc next year, the international consultancy has urged firms to think about how they could reduce their consumption and protect profits.

McKinnon and Clarke has helped thousands of clients in both the public and private sector to achieve significant reductions in their utility expenditure.

Spokes-person, Catriona Love, offers some advice: "It is important that charges are thoroughly audited and checks made to establish whether savings are available.

The impact of the proposed price increases could be offset, or even exceeded, by many UK organisations, by undertaking an audit and analysis".

According to McKinnon and Clarke, the easiest way to achieve costs savings is water minimisation, however a lot more could be achieved by analytical specialists, who can provide a detailed audit and tariff analysis.

What's more, the company is willing to 'put its money where its mouth is'; Catriona explains: "We work on a 'no savings, no fee' basis, and don't receive a penny unless we succeed in saving our customers money".
