ERIC from MEIRG, the Midlands Engineering Industries Redeployment Group, attended two events recently to help encourage young people to take up careers in engineering
Many of the courses run by MEIRG are free and have been chosen to help bridge identified skill-gaps in the region, such as CAD design and welding.
Engineering companies can also utilise the MEIRG training services.
If they feel their employees would benefit from training MEIRG can source bespoke courses for their company to help build their business making them better able to compete in both the UK and Europe market.
Organisations looking to expand their workforce can also use the MEIRG unique online C-Web facility to advertise current vacancies to help retain the midlands engineering skills base.
It has the capability of matching organisations to those looking for employment to help keep down costs on recruitment.
Engineers that register themselves can do so confidentially, and take also take advantage of the job search facility.
MEIRG also has ERIC, a unique mobile vehicle which can attend schools and colleges that would like their pupils to find out more about engineering.
It incorporates hands-on projects that can be tailored to the student's ages and educational needs.
An online diary on the website allows educational establishments to see when ERIC is free.
Companies that are facing changes, such as redundancies, can also get help and advice online.
ERIC can be hired to go on-site to help with CV writing and interviewing techniques.
Jan Staley, project manager for MEIRG, said: "We're keen to make all our services easily available to all those in the engineering sector.
Online is a host of information including testimonials from companies and individuals we've helped, to demonstrate the difference we're making.
The midlands has a strong engineering heritage and we're keen to support both companies and individuals in the sector where needed.
