Megger makes insulation testing safer

A Megger product story
Edited by the Processingtalk editorial team Oct 29, 2008

Megger's MIT400-range of insulation testers makes testing safer in industrial applications where high-energy transients in electrical supply systems are common.

The testers are safe to use in all normal service and maintenance operations, even close to the source of supply, where transient levels are highest.

The testers are compact enough to allow one-handed operation.

All models incorporate a dual digital display and an analogue arc.

The main display shows the principal parameter being measured, for example insulation resistance, in digital format and as an analogue arc, while the smaller secondary display shows a related parameter, for example insulation test voltage, as a digital value.

Users therefore save time by measuring two parameters with a single test.

MIT400 insulation testers also offer timesaving fast-response continuity testing and RMS voltage measurement that provides accurate results even when the supply waveform is non-sinusoidal.

Megger's MIT400 testers are available in four versions.

The entry level MIT400 provides insulation testing at 250V, 500V and 1,000V, together with continuity testing and voltage measurement.

The MIT410 adds 50V and 100V insulation tests, as well as fully automatic measurement of dielectric absorption (DAR) and polarisation index (PI), while the MIT420 provides all of the facilities of the MIT420 plus internal storage for test results.

Stored results can subsequently be recalled to the screen to allow easy recording.

The versatile MIT430 stores test results and allows them to be transferred to a PC via a Bluetooth wireless connection.

This arrangement eliminates the need for data cables and guarantees total electrical isolation between the instrument and the PC to which the data is being transferred.

The testers have Category IV 600V rating in line with IEC61010.

MIT400 models are also available for insulation testing at low voltages, for example on sensitive IT systems and for applications in telecommunications systems.
