Organic Solvent Nanofiltration Membranes

A Membrane Extraction Technology product story
Edited by the Processingtalk editorial team Mar 12, 2003

WRGrace has licensed Membrane Extraction Technology to distribute its Starmem range of membranes throughout Europe, for applications in fine chemical and pharmaceutical manufacture

Chemical Engineers at MET have worked closely with Grace and with researchers in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London, since 1999, developing applications of these nanofilters in chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturing.

Use of organic solvent nanofiltration has considerable potential throughout the chemical industry; for example, it can replace solvent-intensive unit operations such as chromatography, reduce time and yield penalties on solvent exchanges, and recover expensive homogeneous catalysts.

Through this agreement, both companies expect to extend the range of applications for Starmem, and develop their use into a diverse set of areas, including pharmaceutical processing and biomedical separations.
