LVDT with high temperature and radiation
tolerance
Macro Sensors has introduced a new series of high temperature and mild radiation resistant LVDTs, ideal for nuclear facilities, boilers and steam turbines
The Hstar 750 Series of 3/4 inch (19 mm) diameter AC-operated LVDTs are hermetically sealed, stainless steel sensors intended for use in environments with high temperatures (400F) or mild radiation exposure Units withstand mild radiation at 3x10^7 Rads for 40 years

Spring-loaded LVDTs offer consistent measurement
Macro Sensors, a manufacturer of LVDTs, RVDTs and related instrumentation, offers a line of rugged, spring-loaded AC/DC-operated LVDTs for dimensional or position measurement
Hstar linear position sensors are ideal for use in radiation resistant robots, beam scraper positioning feedback, nuclear steam valve positioning as well as power generation applications.
Available in ranges of +/-0.050 inch (+/-1.25 mm) to +/-10.0 inches (+/-250 mm), the Hstar 750 Series sensors feature the high resolution, excellent repeatability, and low hysteresis associated with LVDT technology, as well as the highest sensitivity consistent with good linearity.
The maximum linearity error for any of these sensors is +/-0.25% of full range output using a statistically best-fit straight line derived by the least squares method.

Electrical termination of the Hstar 750 Series is made through a sealed radial connector located near one end.
The mating connector plug is supplied with the unit.
A radially-mounted electrical connector permits through-bore operation with these significant results:.
* The LVDTs are accessible from both ends, permitting much better mechanical support and core guidance than with blind-bore hermetically sealed units.
* The coil windings are sealed against hostile environments to IEC standard IP-68 and electrical termination is through a sealed radial connector located near one end.
* Open at both ends, the LVDTs can be easily cleaned of grit, dirt, dust or other contaminants for greater reliability and longer life.
* The radial connector makes the installed length of the HSAR LVDTs at least 2inches shorter than comparable units with an axially mounted connector for easier installation in tight spaces.
Macro Sensors offers several standard options that permit a user to customise Hstar 750 LVDTs, including metric threaded cores, as well as smaller diameter and low mass cores.
In addition, Macro Sensors can provide a range of mounting accessories and core extension rods.
On special order, the Hstar 750 Series can be constructed for immersion in pressurised fluids.
All Hstar 750 Series LVDTs will operate properly with any conventional differential input LVDT signal conditioner.
Ranges of 1.00 inches or greater will also work with ratiometric LVDT signal conditioning.
Macro Sensors offers a full line of LVDT signal conditioners that will deliver optimum performance from any Hstar 750 Series LVDT.
