MetaSphere has won a significant Anglian Water order to supply 300 MM3P remote telemetry units (RTUs) and associated analysis and reporting software for its pollution prevention operations

Advanced technology offers complete solution for pollution prevention Epsom-based MetaSphere, formerly a division of LogicaCMG, has won a significant order from Anglian Water for the supply of 300 MM3P remote telemetry units (RTUs) and associated analysis and reporting software for its pollution prevention operations

The innovative nature of the RTUs from MetaSphere was enough for Anglian Water to choose them over those from other leading manufacturers.

The RTUs will be used to help it better manage and understand its pollution prevention operations and will be installed on the extensive Anglian Water regional telemetry system, already monitoring over 12,000 separate locations in their clean and waste water networks.

Users will access web-based reports showing the information collected from these new sites allowing them to make the right decisions at the right time.

Pollution prevention is a big issue for water and wastewater companies.

The issue is that in the event of abnormal flow conditions combined sewer systems often have to discharge to prevent the sewerage network becoming overloaded and flooding into populated areas.

According to MetaSphere managing director, Steve Mustard: "People have been using a variety of basic solutions that meet the immediate needs of pollution prevention but they have continued to look for a product that fulfils a wider range of requirements for this business application.

Our solution safely and reliably monitors levels at key points in the sewerage network and returns the data via GPRS to a central processing and display system that provides easy-to-use overviews of status information and access to data for incident analysis, modelling and investment analysis.

A range of alarm criteria can be set so that incidents can be reported as they are starting to happen, giving the maximum time to respond".

Indeed, the ability to easily view network status combined with the ability to analyse historical activity allows water and sewage companies to become more proactive, often preventing unnecessary discharging through timely corrective action.

"We also enhance the whole package by offering in-depth analysis tools to complement the web-based data presentation," Mustard continues: "Other solutions offer web-based presentation of the basic data but we have designed our solution to reduce user effort by providing more information derived from this data.

Because the information is delivered to users through our Master Control regional telemetry system users can be assured of a highly reliable solution".

The MetaSphere solution consists of an MM3P RTU and a Pulsar IMP self-contained, non-contact, ultrasonic level measurement sensors.

Offering GSM/GPRS capabilities, the IP68-rated, low power MM3P series offers many important features, including long battery life - a vital consideration for in-field hardware.

Completely self-contained, the unit exploits the latest developments in low-power technology; deriving all the power it needs (including sensor power from an inexpensive field-replaceable alkaline battery pack).

This, together with an integral GPRS modem, ensures a long service life with low infrastructure costs.

The MM3P is approved for use in hazardous environments where ATEX compliance (to zone 0) is required.

A unique intrinsically safe solution ensures the installation footprint and performance is unchanged from non-ATEX environments.
