The Metrosensor electrode maintenance guide
My pH glass electrode is dirty, what can I do? How do I replace the reference electrolyte? This DVD guide answers these questions and many others concerning the care and maintenance of Metrosensors
Short and clear video sequences are used for a step-by-step demonstration of how to handle and maintain your electrodes.
Twelve different languages are available.
The DVD is arranged in six main sections and numerous subsections that you can select individually and view as many times as you wish.
The six main sections are:.
1) Combined pH glass electrodes.
2) Metal electrodes and electrodes for Karl Fischer titrations.
3) Electrodes for surfactant titrations.
4) Ion-selective electrodes.
5) Reference electrodes.
6) Conductivity measuring cells.
Also Metrohm introduce the pHit kit - a care set for perfect electrode performance.
Faulty measurements, unstable measured values and very long response times obtained with pH electrodes usually have their cause in the liquid junction between the sample solution and the reference electrode.
The diffusion, streaming and Donnan potentials that occur there - which are normally summed up as the diaphragm potential - have various causes and can significantly falsify the measured values, especially if the glass membrane or the diaphragm is contaminated.
In the long term, only a preventive and regular care of the glass membrane and diaphragm guarantees reliable measurements.
Cleaning by etching with toxic chemicals or mechanical treatment of the diaphragm is not only complicated and expensive, but also accelerates aging of the pH glass electrode.
The 6.2325.000 pHit kit (cleaning solution, storage solution and electrolyte c(KCl) = 3 mol/L) was developed for a simple and gentle cleaning of pH glass electrodes.
Regular use can considerably extend the electrodes lifetime.
