Certified standard solutions in ion
chromatography
Reliable quantitative determinations in ion chromatography require calibration curves obtained by using perfect quality calibration standards
Each Metrohm ion chromatograph is delivered together with a Primus standard (Primary Multi-ion Standard; multi-ion standard for the determination of anions or cations) from Fluka Primus standards are not only used for calibration, but also for demonstrating that the instruments are functioning properly after installation

Primus standards are prepared from characterised primary materials (Li2CO3, KCl, CaCO3, MgO, NaCl, NaF, NaBr, NaNO3, Na2HPO4, Na2SO4) and come in 50 mL bottles.
The anion multi-ion standard contains 10 ppm each of fluoride, chloride, bromide, nitrate, phosphate and sulphate and can be reordered from Fluka (order number: 89886).
The cation multi-ion standard contains 10 ppm each of lithium, sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium.
It can also be reordered directly from Fluka (order number 89316).
The solutions are supplied in HDPE bottles contained in a sealed aluminium bag.
In this way, both solutions can be stored in their original packaging for up to five years! The manufacturer guarantees that the concentrations will remain unchanged throughout this period.
In addition to the Primus standards, there are other standard solutions that can be used for the validation of ion chromatographs.
For the operational qualification (OQ) of systems of the type 850 Professional IC, a Metrohm OQ Set has been defined (order number 6.5333.000) which, in addition to the appropriate documentation and methods, contains a back-pressure capillary and a suitable Teflon capillary as well as a standard set of six solutions.
These standard solutions contain bromide at concentrations of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 1000 ppm.
They can be used for the validation of systems with conductivity, UV/VIS or electrochemical detectors.
The six solutions in the standard set are certified and are produced by Fluka.
Like the Primus standards, they can also be reordered from Fluka (order number 12674). Request a free brochure from Metrohm UK ...
