MIPAC to lead automation at Kazakh copper refinery
MIPAC has been selected to lead the design, automation and control of a major expansion to the Kazzinc Ust-Kamenogorsk Metallurgical Facilities in Eastern Kazakhstan, and will use DeltaV
In doing so, SPCC has not had to reduce any production levels and in fact, the newer smelting and refining technology should enable more efficient production levels.
MIPAC, along with Xstrata Technology, played a key role in the modernisation project with the main highlights listed below.
MIPAC Scope: Field instrumentation and drive control design.
Specification and commissioning of: Feed Preparation Plant; ISASMELT Furnace; Waste Heat Boiler; Two Rotary Holding Furnaces; Plant Control System configuration.
Design, implementation testing and commissioning for: Feed Preparation Plant; ISASMELT Furnace and Blower; Combustion Air Blower; Waste Heat Boiler; Two Rotary Holding Furnaces.
Client training in control system configuration.
Technical Highlights: Centralised smelter control room, Use of Fieldbus technology for field instrumentation, Automatic bath temperature control of ISASMELT furnace.
Design and commissioning achieved with low impact on existing smelter operations.
MIPAC produced highly accurate drawings and documentation which contributed to the ease of the electrical installation.
