The compact size of the FR-S540 belies its 200 per cent overload capacity and the wealth of features its sports.
To ensure ease of commissioning and straightforward resetting in the field, the unit can be configured so that only 12 chosen parameters are freely accessible, the rest being password-protected so that they cannot be adjusted by unauthorised personnel.
At the heart of the FR-S540 is a dedicated ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit), with which class leading speed holding accuracy is attained.
Its Optimised Excitation Control Function reduces energy consumption by up to 45 per cent compared to earlier ASICs, provides motor slip compensation during start-up, auto torque boost, restart, flying start and controlled slowdown, on-line auto returning and soft PWM (pulse width modulation) for low switching noise during operation.
Like the single-phase drive, the FR-S540 has a "digital dial" instead of a keypad.
This, users report, simplifies the setting of application parameters.
Mitsubishi Electric has also ensured the optimal visualisation of the software functions for the FR-S540 - including power, voltage and torque displays - so that information on the drives operating conditions are instantly understandable by all personnel.
The entire 500-series was created around, a standardised operating concept, so that users have only one set of parameters to learn, common software is compatible throughout the entire range, and there is a family feel to all the units.
An RS 485 interface is available on ECR models allowing them to integrate easily into an automation system, with up to 32 drives being connectable to a single network.
A 500 series external control unit allows parameter settings to be copies and clones from one drive to other identical drives in a system, reducing set-up and retuning times considerable. Request a free brochure from Mitsubishi Electric Automation Systems ...
