Helios - a new range of progressing cavity (PC) pumps for the hygienic market - combines all of the values associated with the well-known Mono brand at a competitive price

The Helios polished stainless steel construction will appeal to end-users and OEMs across the food, dairy, beverage and pharmaceutical sectors The twenty-nine models in the Helios range feature a compact design with a one piece suction chamber that is easily cleaned and has no areas where product could collect, reducing the risk of contamination

From a practical standpoint, the pump can also be dismantled without removing the drive, which makes inspection and maintenance much easier and reduces the risk of damage to the mechanical seal, whilst working on the pump.

The range handles flow rates up to 180m3/h and pressures up to 24 bar.

Polished stainless steel is used for all metal parts in contact with the product and reliable operation and reduced downtime is further ensured by the inclusion of a sealed pin joint.

Inlet and outlet fittings are threaded as standard to DIN 11851, with alternatives available on request.

White stators can also be specified as well as a full range of industry related options, including CIP bypass connection ports.

The arrival of the Helios range makes PC pumps an increasingly viable option in the hygienic market where they offer a number of significant advantages over other positive displacement pump types.

Mono anticipates that they will now be viewed as a practical alternative to lobe pumps, for example.

Helios exhibits the following advantages.

* Better seal and wear characteristics thanks to an interference fit between the rotor and soft resilient stator.

* Minimal reduction in flow even with varying viscosity fluids such as CIP fluids.

* Gentle handling of shear sensitive products at high flow rates.

* Inherently self-priming.

* Little slippage with low viscosity fluids.

* Lower service costs due to employment of single shaft and seal.

Commenting on the news, Mono Marketing Manager, Nichola Vasconcellos said, "The design of Helios has enabled Mono to offer a range of pumps at a competitive price for the hygienic market without compromising performance.

The name Helios - with its connotations of the sun - should make it a memorable one for the hygienic sector.

It also reminds people of the word helix and so links with the shape of the rotor, which is at the heart of every PC pump".
