Several sets of cooling towers are used, covering the mill process, lubrication systems and effluent plant etc Fresh water coming in to the site can vary between 10 and 25C, depending upon ambient conditions and the time of year, and the cooling towers are used to maintain approximately 18C for the mill operation.
This can equate to a throughput of 10,000m3 of water per day through these cooling towers during the summer period.
Marley Cooling Tower have previously undertaken successful equipment rebuilds at the Shotton plant, which demonstrated their obvious knowledge and expertise in this marketplace.
When approached regarding maintenance facilities, they put forward their Marley Plan service agreement which can be tailored to suit the level of performance and process protection required.
With site visits every month, Marley can ensure that the cooling towers at Shotton Paper are subject to full overhaul, together with superficial and deep cleaning to Approved Code of Practice - L8 requirements which includes the associated bowscreen filters beneath the towers.
This is backed-up by a rapid response service to any breakdown, or reported malfunction, coupled to frequent general inspections and six monthly diagnostic checks.
Further annual detailed inspections are carried out, including the provision of a regularly updated service record.
Mr Kevin Smith, TMP and Boiler House Superintendent of the Shotton Paper Company Ltd states "the service agreement means that we have Marley fully trained technicians undertaking this important maintenance work for us, leaving our own personnel available to undertake other tasks.
Marley have also replaced previous contractors used for L8 conformation and the towers are now much cleaner, with additional cost savings and reduction in water losses now evident.
We also have the peace of mind that only manufacturers recommended replacement parts are used for any repair work.".
