A leading manufacturer of lawnmowers for out in the field, on the golf course or in the garden is recognised, for commercial mowers, as the industry standard

On the latest model the rigours of critical bearings and mis-alignment issues raised serious durability problems which needed the Spyraflo expertise to solve Their Z-two zero turn radius, ride-on, mid-mount mower is amongst the fastest, strongest and most manoeuvrable available in the market today

For such a machine the exacting performance required of the mechanics calls for a robust but flexible solution.

Many bearings were evaluated by the design engineers, which included low-cost pressed steel bronze pillow blocks and assorted rolling element bearing housings.

The design team finally selected the Spyraflo pillow block self-aligning bearing that could stand up to the rigours of being mounted on the steel fabricated cutting deck/chassis of the mower.

At the same time they had to carry the load, including shock load and facilitate easy raising and lowering of the cut platform.

Spyraflo worked closely with the engineers to produce a custom yellow zinc plated steel version of the standard Spyraflo PB-625-B aluminium pillow block, which completely met the stringent specification requirements.

The results have been outstanding with trouble free mowers being a great marketing and user success, so much so that Spyraflo now supplies these bearings across a range of their mowers with cut widths ranging from 12cm up to 18cm.

Micromech is the UK and Eire distributor for these clever bearings, if you would like more information about them or perhaps a sample, then contact Miranda Howard.
