The largest installation of networked MiRa scales in Scotland has been installed by Mettler Toledo at award winning Scottish butchers D G Lindsay and Sons in Perth

Award winning Scottish butchers D G Lindsay and Sons has improved its processes with the installation of Mettler Toledo MiRa machines.

The system includes a full cash control facility with hand held scanner and is linked to the office computer for complete control.

Established in 1863, D G Lindsay and Sons has built a reputation for providing high quality local produce, selected from local farms, to consumer and wholesale markets.

Among the 10 qualified employees is 20 year old Aaron Taylor, who beat other talented individuals to win the 2002 Under 22 Meat Skills Scotland competition.

David Lindsay and his son are also members of the Scottish Meat Federation Association.

The butchers, based in North Methven Street, Perth, supply the catering industry with a variety of products including beef, lamb and pork dishes.

Legislation and regulations introduced for the food industry stipulates that all beef products must be traceable.

It is vital that the shops produce conforms to the beef traceability regulations in order to meet customer expectations as well as building upon their existing and future customer bases.

The equipment already installed in the shop did not comply with the new legislation and required upgrading.

Due to the nature of the business - supplying both wholesale and consumer clients - Mettler Toledo proposed a combination of instruments as the best option to meet all their requirements.

They chose three MiRa receipt printers and a MiRa double printer scale for customer service along with a RT terminal for cash transactions.

In addition a MiRa label printer for use in the preparation room was selected for making up wholesale and pre-pack orders.

Suitable for a wide range of applications, including counter service and price labelling pre-packaged goods, the printers and scales guarantee a solution to all application problems.

An enhanced display, easy load printer housed underneath the weight plate and the option to select a coloured bow to match corporate colours or differentiate between counter types provide an ideal solution to retail weighing applications.

All metal casings and superb build quality ensure the machines are easy to use, reliable and adaptable to all working environments.

The new double printer scale is two printers in one scale allowing you to switch between label and receipt printing without changing rolls.

Inventory logging, extensive tare options, product tips for operators and a wholesale feature are just some of the benefits that convinced David Lindsay to purchase Mettler Toledo products.

It is also available in full stainless steel housing ensuring it meets hygiene regulations, which is essential for the food industry.

To complete the system Bossweight software was installed on the office PC.

This Windows based software is ideal for controlling data and links to the full range of MiRa products.

Phil Power, Technical Specialist at Mettler Toledo Retail, says "this is the largest installation of networked MiRa scales in Scotland.

The installation has allowed David to fully comply with all traceability regulations as well as enhancing his pre-pack and account customer business.

The flexibility of the system will allow growth and many years of trouble free operations".
