Mettler Toledo and Procter and Gamble have developed Q.i - the first commercially available material transfer control solution.

This software and services package combines predictive adaptive control (PAC) technology and material transfer controller (matroller) and generates higher levels of performance for batching and filling systems.

Q.i monitors material transfer operations by measuring the flow rate of a material and building a mathematical model of the process.

Based on the information gathered, it predicts how the delivery system will react when instructed by the control system to complete the material transfer (feed).

It then automatically compensates for normal process variants that cause errors, eliminating costly raw material over-feed/underfeed.

Because material transfer cut-off is predicted ahead of time, the system uses simple on-off control rather than complicated multi-speed control schemes.

This results in reduced batch cycle time and higher manufacturing throughput.

Q.i also includes performance analysis software, collaborative production management tools and predictive/preventive diagnostics.

In addition programs for gathering and analysing data to provide statistical, diagnostic and operational information as well as asset management, batch server, process control, and spreadsheet or database applications are also included.

The new Q.i Lite version is now available.
