Understanding crystal development and number

A Mettler Toledo product story
Edited by the Processingtalk editorial team Jun 16, 2004

During process development, steps can be affected by the characteristics of crystals, and understanding the crystals formed is vital to downstream processing operations such as filtration and drying

Today there is increasing pressure to manufacture Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) with the right formulation behaviour and a robust physical structure.

During process development, several steps can be affected by the characteristics of crystals, and understanding how and when crystals are formed is vital to downstream processing operations such as filtration and drying.

Our range of technologies can help.

Focus Beam Reflectance Measurement (FBRM) and Particle Vision Measurement (PVM) are ideal for characterising, in real-time, processes in the laboratory and production plant.

The FBRM probe provides information on crystal size and number while PVM technology allows direct particle visualisation.

In addition a range of Automated Laboratory Reactors (ALR) enable process parameters to be accurately controlled and optimised.

If you want to learn more about this technique, Mettler Toledo will be holding a crystallisation application seminar in September 2004.
