Software to improve steel processing
The metals industries, especially the steel industry, is now an old, mature industry: Metal Pass software products and consulting services can change this situation
The metals industries, especially the steel industry, is now an old, mature industry.
For many decades the US steel industry has been "slow" in technological development.
The government ignores the capital input in the steel industry, and the steel industry itself "cannot afford" to do the development.
Most technologies are bought from Germany and Italy.
Companies with good research centres such as Bethlehem Steel and LTV failed, while those without the research facilities such as Nucor run well.
In the education institution, less and less steel related classes are taught.
Steel rolling processes or metal forming, for example, have almost disappeared from engineering classes, even though it is still one of the primary majors in Germany, first place in Russia, China, Japan, and probably UK and Sweden.
There is still a research laboratory on bar and section rolling in the Colorado School of Mines.
However, most current projects focus on microstructure development.
US steel industry is old, like an old man - he is very old, and lack of nutrition.
However, he is still striving to live.
There is a dose of medicine to allow him to grow some new muscle.
Computer application and automation, on the basis of process modeling, is just like the new muscle added to the old body.
One key stage to link the computer and the mechanical/electric equipment is the process modeling.
Metal Pass tries to serve this industry as the dose of medicine to grow the new muscle for the old steel industry.
Process modeling, particularly the rolling mill related, is our strength.
As the primary product of Metal Pass the new website is dedicated to the resources on process modeling and computer application.
We are not only the pioneer in the metal industry, but also a leader in the IT industry.
We use Microsoft .Net to develop sophisticated web-based engineering applications, with MS SQL Server as backend.
This tool set is currently the newest in the IT industry.
While we provide services for web-based temperature prediction with finite differential method (FDM), and web-based roll pass design and mill power calculation, some of our competitors are still selling DOS version roll pass programmes! The strategy in Metal Pass LLC is to collect steel mill process models worldwide, especially from Germany, Japan, Canada, USA, China, etc, to do further development and to pack the achieved process models into computer programmes with help of advanced US software technology.
We have wide links in all the countries mentioned above.
The founder of Metal Pass LLC earned his Ph.D in Germany on metal forming with concentration on steel rolling.
As the first step we have developed a long list of design and development software programmes.
In the next we are helping the key steel producers to integrate our rolling mill process models into their online computer system (Level 2 automation system, etc).
The mission of Metal Pass is: we provide the best software products and consulting services by combining international strengths such as German engineering and US IT.
