Monitoring Ambient Air: a meeting to discuss the Implications and Implementation of the New Directives and Standards, at the English Heritage Lecture Theatre, London, on 15-16 December 2004, will see an unprecedented number of important developments announced relating to the monitoring of ambient air in Europe Specific examples include the forthcoming CEN standards covering prescribed methods for monitoring NOx, SO2, CO, ozone, benzene, PM2.5 and heavy metals; an expected fourth "daughter" directive covering metals and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons; a published practical definition of how methods can be declared to be equivalent; and major reports from CAFE and the UK Air Quality Expert Group on the challenging issue of ambient particulate matter

This meeting will bring together the key people involved and will provide an up-to-date and authoritative overview.

The conference will create an opportunity to present recent developments in monitoring strategies, requirements and analytical techniques to industry, the scientific community and public authorities.

Delegates can expect presentations covering the monitoring of pollutants and their effects on air quality in the rural and urban environment.

All industrial, public health and environmental chemists who are involved in air monitoring, environmental or health studies should attend.
