Collette Extends Process Development Centre with the installation of Ultimapro75 One Pot Processor Collette NV of Belgium, a member of Niro Pharma Systems, has extended its Process Development Centre (PDC) in Wommelgem with the addition of an Ultimapro 75 One Pot Processor The process centre provides R and D facilities for Collette customers to test drying, granulating and agglomeration processes and perfect product formulations before investing in production equipment

The Ultimapro 75 offers all available drying options (vacuum, Transflo, microwaves) and is fully equipped with the latest features to allow the maximum flexibility during trials: a contained sampling valve that allows the operator to take samples during the process without having to stop the machine, open the bowl, or even open a port in the lid.

The sample container is completely contained so it can be transported to the QC lab without exposure to the atmosphere.

It accepts the BuckValve Hicoflex system for easy, dust-free loading and discharging of the bowl.

A special valve for adding liquid nitrogen into the process, allowing very fast cooling of the product (eg for melt granulation processes).

Several entry points in different locations for integrating PAT probes into the machine.

These may include the integration of NIR or FBRM probes for monitoring homogeneity, granule growth and moisture content during the process.

Weight control for both liquid addition and solvent recovery.

Different types of mixing tools for special processes (eg pellet mixer arm, ANBA mixer arm).

Improved control system allowing the operator to choose the process settings.

This is achieved through additional product databases and a process advice page.

The system contains records of the original moisture content of the ingredients and calculates the amount of additional liquid necessary to achieve the desired LOD level before granulation.

It also provides the operator with the minimum lid and bowl temperatures to avoid condensation and product build-up.

The PDC is available for all Collette customers and helps pharmaceutical companies maximise product and process performance prior to scaling up to full production thereby reducing costs and time to market.

Other granulation equipment available is a MicroGral (100 - 700 g batches, an Ultimapro 10 (0,7 - 3 kg) and an Ultimapro 25 (3 - 10 kg), which can also be rented for trials on customer premises Compression of the produced granules can be executed on a R100M Courtoy press installed in the PDC.

Analytical tools for characterising granules and tablets are also available.
