Companies in the Grimsby area are set to benefit from a GBP250k business support programme that is being co-ordinated by the economic development department of North East Lincolnshire Council

Companies in the Grimsby area are set to benefit from a new and exciting GBP250k business support programme that is being co-ordinated by the economic development department of North East Lincolnshire Council The money is to be used primarily for the promotion and expansion of Grimsby Food Town, which is the largest in Europe

Part of the money will also be used to provide support to local companies attending UK and overseas events.

Support is open to smaller local businesses involved in fish, beverages and other food related activities including production, processing, beverages, packaging, engineering, and logistics.

To manage the funds now available and in particular how best these can be deployed to help the area, the economic development department is establishing a new 'Food Town Marketing Group'.

It is anticipated that some of the key objectives of the Food Town Marketing Group will include generating more employment, growing local businesses, improving logistics and providing an integrated promotional approach.

A large percentage of the funding that is being made available to firms has been provided by the Government European Regional Development Fund for Yorkshire and the Humber.

Additional monies have been contributed by North East Lincolnshire Council and a small number of locally based private sector companies.

Over the coming months, the North East Lincolnshire economic development department will be highlighting to local firms and companies the funding that is available.

However, the first step is to get the Food Town Marketing Group activated and the North East Lincolnshire economic development officer Andrew Moore is now looking for experienced individuals willing to serve on the committee.

Cllr Geoff Lowis, portfolio holder for regeneration, says: "This latest and exciting initiative by North East Lincolnshire Council will ensure that local companies get the best possible funding support in order to help them expand.

To move this forward the economic development department is looking for people with relevant experience to help agree how best the funds could be spent.

North East Lincolnshire Council is particularly grateful to the Government European Regional Development Fund for Yorkshire and the Humber and on behalf of the Council I would like to pass on my thanks to them".

Adds Mr Moore: "Locally based senior individuals in the fish, food, packaging, engineering or educational sectors interested in serving on the committee should contact Andrew Moore for further details.

It is anticipated that the funding will benefit over 550 food engineering and logistics related companies in and around Grimsby.
