The unique ElastaGraph gasket represents a major breakthrough for industrial liquid and gas sealing applications The product combines the outstanding thermal and chemical properties of flexible graphite with an ability to maintain constant bolt load even under thermal cycling conditions

This makes the product particularly suited to valve and pipeline flanged joints in the chemical, petrochemical and general industrial processing markets.

Flexible graphite has become the material of choice following the prohibition of asbestos based gasket materials in the UK.

However, despite the materials' excellent sealing qualities of high compressibility with no cold or warm flow, conventional graphite based gaskets cannot provide complete sealing solutions and concerns exist about the handling and fitting of these products.

The unique composition of ElastaGraph provides a number of end-user benefits over conventional graphite designs and this has led to the widespread specification of the product in refinery and chemical plants by major companies throughout the world.

ElastaGraph is made by moulding a seamless layer of flexible graphite, at varying densities and thicknesses, over a corrugated metal core.

The unique corrugated pattern, with increased groove depth and pitch, greatly improves sealability and bolt load retention compared to traditional corrugated designs.

The inner diameter of the corrugated core is also completely encapsulated with a ring of high-density graphite to maximise the integrity and sealing qualities of the gasket.

This eliminates sharp edges for safe handling and the pre-compressed graphite is resistant to damage or marking and does not stick to flange faces.

Due to the high density graphite at the peaks and the corrugated design it can be used where there is insufficient load to seal conventional gaskets such as spiral wound.

The excellent rigidity achieved with the method of manufacture ensures easy location or posting of gaskets between flanges, while gasket identification also prevents incorrectly sized gaskets being used.

Unlike other corrugated gaskets, no Mylar/polyester film adhesive is used in construction.

This prevents volume reduction from adhesive loss at higher temperatures, leading to loss of bolt-tension which compromises sealing performance during service.

Pre-formed ElastaGraph gaskets, complete with identification markings, can be supplied for class 150 and 300 applications.

Larger vessel gaskets can also be supplied to order.

Temperatures up to 450deg can be accommodated in oxidising service, even higher in steam and reducing fluids.

The products are available in the UK solely through Novus Sealing Limited in the north and Specialised Engineering Products Limited in the south.
