New Chairman unveiled for Offshore

The Offshore Europe Partnership is delighted to announce that Thomas Thune Andersen, Chief Executive Officer of Maersk Oil, has accepted the role of Chairman for Offshore Europe 2009.

Offshore Europe is the largest upstream oil and gas event outside North America, held every two years in Europe's energy capital of Aberdeen OE 2009 is set to build upon the unprecedented success of the 2007 event, which achieved a record attendance figure and featured 1,455 exhibiting companies

Mr Andersen commented on his appointment: "The oil and gas industry has reached a crossroads.

Choices need to be debated and decisions need to be taken so the industry is prepared structurally and technically for the future.

I am honoured to chair Offshore Europe 2009 at this time when the industry's response to issues such as sustainability and meeting global demands has never been more important".

Currently based in Copenhagen, Mr Andersen is a Partner of the A.P Moller - Maersk Group and is Director or Chairman of a number of companies within the A.P.

Moller - Maersk Group.

Previously Mr Andersen's career has seen him in many positions worldwide for A.P Moller - Maersk.

The conference and exhibition is organised by The Offshore Europe Partnership, a joint venture between Reed Exhibitions and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).

The 2009 theme is 'Energy At A Crossroads - Making Choices', with each day featuring panel sessions focusing on key issues of: Climate Change; Operating Models at the Crossroads; Breakthrough Technologies; Globalisation of the Talent Pool; and Education.

Supporting the conference content will be a programme of topical lunches and business breakfasts.

Global Importance of OE to E+P Industry.

OE 2009 will be held from 8-11th September in Aberdeen and will draw many thousands of delegates to the conference and exhibition from around the world, reflecting the event's global reach.

OE 2009 FACT FILE.

The biennial Offshore Europe conference is the largest oil and gas technical meeting outside North America.

Industry professionals from 96 countries worldwide attended the last event in September 2007, with the total daily attendance of 40,179 breaking the all-time record for attendees.

The quality of the technical sessions put together under the guidance of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) ensures that the meeting is a key date in the diaries of business leaders, engineers and technical managers worldwide.

Offshore Europe takes place from 8-11th September 2009 in Aberdeen.

A total of 1,455 exhibitors attended last year's show.

They also took more space than ever before, covering 20,757 square metres at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre.

Offshore Europe is now in its fourth decade, and has firmly established itself as the biggest oil industry event outside North America.
