Production disruptions at a distilled spirits brewing and bottling plant have been solved using an Olympus i-Speed high-speed video camera The major international company involved brews, bottles and packages beverages throughout the world

Production machinery reliability is essential to the productivity and profitability of the brewery, so, when a production problem arises their production staff must be able to quickly and effectively troubleshoot numerous pieces of high-speed production equipment.

The compact portable Olympus i-Speed camera can be quickly moved and set up to view problem areas, and the camera has already been utilised successfully at several locations throughout the organisation, including the crowning, seaming and filling areas.

Images can be downloaded and analysed on a PC, however, in 'stand alone' mode the Control Display Unit (CDU) ensures full camera control and provides immediate results for image review and analysis.

A recent production disruption was a 'capping jam', which can cause hundreds of bottles and their contents to be destroyed.

i-Speed allowed the technicians to determine that the problem was caused by incorrect alignment of a pneumatic cylinder piston.

The rapid retraction of the piston could only be seen when recorded with i-Speed at 1,000 frames per second and played back in 'super slow' motion, which saved hours of troubleshooting time and many destroyed bottles.

i-Speed has helped the plant increase production to optimum levels.

"The production problems with our many pieces of high-speed machinery can be time-consuming and very costly", said the Operations Area Manager.

"Prior to the use of a high-speed camera, the resolution of this type of problem was reduced to guesswork.

Repair costs and downtime were escalating to no avail.

The immediate analysis afforded by the slow motion view enabled us to repair the fault ourselves as a direct result of viewing of the film". Request a free brochure from Olympus Industrial ...
